Poor Queen

Sometimes a young queen can also be a poor queen. Then she behaves just like an old, failing queen.  Maybe she didn’t get enough royal jelly when she was a larva.  Maybe she did not mate well, on her mating flight.  Maybe she was injured when frames were being removed.  If you know that your queen is a young one, but she lays a spotty brood pattern, or many drone eggs, then you should think about replacing her.  Give her about 6 weeks after her mating flight to begin to lay eggs with a good brood pattern (topic 7).  If things do not get better, you should re-queen the hive.
