Topic Eleven - Bee Pests
- To be able to identify some of the pests of honeybees in the Solomon Islands
- To learn how to prevent these pests from becoming a problem
- To understand the importance of good record keeping and hive management
- To understand the importance of the MAL quarantine on moving honey bees and used equipment
- To begin to understand how to ask and answer questions through experiment and research
Key Words:
Pest – something which harms or disturbs a bee
Abscond – when all of the bees leave or run away from their hive
Parasite – a living thing that lives on or in another living thing and does harm to it.
Quarantine – a rule or law to prevent the movement of something from one place to another. The law is meant to keep a disease or pest from spreading to a place that doesn’t have that disease or pest.
